Environmentally Friendly
Concrete Countertops

Concrete is considered to be one of the greenest, most environmentally friendly building materials in use today. It is a renewable source with plenty of available limestone and aggregate that is used to manufacture concrete, which itself is recyclable.

Concrete can be crushed and reused as aggregate in new concrete therefore there is no need to place concrete in landfills. Harmless industrial waste products such as fly ash and slag cement can be used in the concrete mix to replace a portion of the cement which is the most energy consuming ingredient in concrete.

Unlike some other manmade products, concrete doesn’t emit Radon (like granite), CO2 or other unfriendly gases. Recycled glass or salvaged materials can be used for decorated accents and eye-catching inlays.

Molds and form making tools can be reused repeatedly. By using local materials the consumption of fuel and transportation costs are reduced. Finally, since concrete countertops last a very long time, energy consumption for replacement products is greatly reduced.

When creating a design, customers of Creative Concrete Xpressions have the option of including recycled glass or salvaged material for additional eco-benefits.

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is an internationally recognized system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council. Property owners can obtain additional information from this organization about their green building design and the eco-benefits of concrete countertops.
